Cycle Hire FAQ's

Can I pick up and drop off at different destinations?

No. As of 2024, we can only offer services from Whitstable.

Do I have to book in advance?

For our cheapest rates you must book in advance (it will also make the process much quicker when you come in to hire).

How far in advance do I need to book?

It's always best to book a few days in advance especially in the summer season. As a generall rule, it's normally okay to book one or two days in advance, if you are only booking up to three bikes.

Do you only hire bikes for your designated routes?

No. You can hire a bike and take it wherever you like (due care must be taken if you are transporting our bikes).

Do you provide maps of your routes?

Yes. We provide a detailed map with easy to read, pin-pointed directions. We also provide a live, google map link for use on your phone. We will make sure you get the right advice.

Is the hire period 24 hours?

No. Our hire period is 10am to 6pm every day. Bikes can be kept over night if you have somewhere safe to keep them, at your own risk.

Are locks and helmets included in the price?

Yes. All bikes come with a lock and a helmet, plus a spare inner-tube, tyre levers and basic tools.

How do I choose the right sized Adult bike?

Simply choose the style of bike you prefer, enter your height details and we will make sure you get the right bike.

How do I choose the right size kid's bike?

We have 2 basic sizes: 20" wheel (5 - 8 year olds) and 24" wheel (8 -11 year olds). These sizes are approximate - but do not worry, if you make the wrong choice we will do our best to sort it out on the day of hire.

Can my teenager ride on a kid's bike?

No. If your child is 5' (1.52cm) or more, an adult bike is required. This is a rough guide only.

Are the bikes comfy?

Yes. And we can always provde a gel seat cover for a little extra cushion.

What if I am not comfortable with the bike I am given?

Don't worry. Just tell us and we will do everything we can to find another bike.

Do the bikes have gears?

Yes. Most of our bikes have 18 to 21 gears. Some of our more upright bikes have 6 or 7 gears.

What if I don't know how to use the gears?

We take time to explain the gears to everyone (don't worry - it's all very simple).

Are the bikes easy to ride?

Yes, in general terms the bikes are very simple and we will spend plenty of time making sure you are comfortable with everything.

What happens if I get a puncture?

The bikes are equipped with puncture protected tires, so punctures are rare but we supply a spare innertube, pump and levers with each bike just in case. If you don't know how to replace the inner tube you can call for assistance.

Do you hire tandems?

Yes. We have 3. They are great fun and relatively simple to use. We will give plenty of instruction before setting you off.

Do you hire electric bikes?

Yes we do. The range is approximately 30 miles.

Do you hire road bikes

No, unfortunately we have no road bikes.

Do you hire tag-alongs, trailers and child seats?

Yes we do. These items can only be hired with our bikes and cannot be hired separately and fitted to your own bike.

What happens if the bike gets stolen or damaged?

Thefts are rare but you must treat the bike like your own and lock it safely with the lock provided. You will be responsible for any loss or damage to the bike (see terms and conditions).
